MANILA, Philippines - House chief prosecutor Niel Tupas assures they are not striking a deal with Supreme Court Associate Justice Mariano del Castillio to drop the impeachment case against him in exchange for testifying against Chief Justice Renato Corona.

"There's no deal on the part of Del Castillo, no deal sa kaniya. We might not call him," Tupas told ABS-CBN News in a phone interview.

Del Castillio is one of the 13 justices listed among the 100 possible prosecution witnesses.

The impeachment case was filed by 11 lawmakers who complained of del Castillo's alleged plagiarizing of a Supreme Court ruling on comfort women.

On Wednesday, those set to testify before the impeachment court are representatives of the Securities and Exchange Commission, Burgundy Realty, and Ayala Land Inc.

An ABS-CBN News source said not all the prosecution witnesses may be called, and that a substantial number may already be dropped.
