MANILA - Presidential Communications Secretary Herminio “Sonny” Coloma Jr. said the decision of the Hong Kong government canceling the visa privileges of Philippine diplomats and officials has a "limited effect.”

Downplaying the recent move of Hong Kong Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying, Coloma noted that the sanction in connection with the 2010 Manila hostage crisis does not apply to ordinary citizens.

"Limited lang ang epekto nito, hindi kasama ang mga nagta-trabahong mga Pilipino," Coloma said.

Coloma refused to comment further until after the Palace has read the official statement from the Department of Foreign Affairs.

The Palace, however, remains hopeful that Hong Kong and the Philippines will finally move on.

"We continue to work together to achieve a mutually acceptable solution," said Coloma.

“Ina-acknowledge natin ang kaganapan ngayon, viewed in the context of a continuum, meron naman tuloy tuloy na pagkilos simula dun,” he added.
