MANILA -- President Benigno Aquino III lamented that sensationalism seems to have become the norm in media reporting these days.

"When I was younger, when you read the newspapers, you know that the [reports] are true… Nobody questioned what was written there,” Aquino told ABS-CBN’s "Bottomline" when asked about his relationship with the media.

These days, however, even those close to him, such as his household staff, ask him if the reports they have heard are true, he said.

He also cited the continued criticisms that he has not done a lot even after three years in position, despite surveys that say otherwise.

“So long as people believe in me, bahala na kayo. Basta magtratrabaho ako,” Aquino said.

Asked if he ever felt that the criticisms have gone too far, he replied: “My test is, for as long as I can face the mirror and [tell myself] that I did everything possible, I’m already okay with that.”
