Nepotism case filed vs Marina exec

MANILA (UPDATED) - A Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) official is in hot water for allegedly appointing her brother and sister-in-law to key positions in the agency.

A complaint has been filed in Malacanang against Marina deputy administrator for operations Gloria Banas for alleged nepotism.

Banas, an appointee of President Benigno Aquino, is chairperson of the Personnel Selection Board of Marina.

According to Presidential Communications Secretary Sonny Coloma, Banas will be made to explain why her brother, Engr. Rizal Victoria, has been appointed chief/officer-in-charge of the Maritime Safety Audit Office; and his wife, Melinda Victoria, as her executive secretary.

According to complainant Nelson Ramirez of the United Filipino Seafarers, the group will hold a massive protest if Banas is not dismissed from office. called Banas' mobile number at least 46 times on Sunday (Jan. 26) to get her side but she did not answer our calls. -- reports from dzmm; Ria de Fiesta,
