MANILA, Philippines - Cagayan Rep, Juan Ponce “Jack” Enrile Jr. twitted “misleading news” about his so-called withdrawal from the senatorial race.
In a statement, the son of Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile said: “I wish to inform everybody that I have not withdrawn nor contemplated on the idea of withdrawing from the May 2013 senatorial race."
"It has come to my attention that some misguided minds have been poisoning the social media through tweets and misleading news about my so-called withdrawal.”
The older Enrile has been dragged into the news again, after some senators questioned his use of the chamber’s savings as Christmas gifts to a chosen few.
On Wednesday, the issue was brought to the floor by Senator Alan Peter Cayetano. The word war ended with both throwing personal attacks against each other.
A so-called news from a parody website made the rounds in the Internet, claiming that the younger Enrile has withdrawn from the race because of the controversy hounding the senate president. The younger Enrile is a candidate of the United Nationalist Alliance.
“This is simply not true. I have no reason to withdraw when the race has not even started,” he said.
“Again, let it be said that there is simply no truth to the rumor. What is true is that I have stepped up my resolve to see this electoral exercise to its very end. Win or lose,” he noted.
