MANILA -- Akbayan party-list Rep. Barry Gutierrez on Monday said Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) Chairperson Zenaida Ducut should be removed from office for her failure to protect power consumers.
According to Gutierrez, the newest evidence of Ducut's failure is the recent approval by the ERC of the "high" increase in the power rates of Meralco.
Gutierrez said although the ERC is an independent commission, Ducut's relief should be acted upon by Malacanang, which should make sure that it appoints only those worthy of government positions.
ACT party-list Rep. Antonio Tinio and Bayan Muna Rep. Neri Colmenares have also called for Ducut's head. - report from Jon Ibanez, dzMM
