VP Binay booed at Sinulog festival
MANILA - Vice President Jejomar Binay was greeted with rumbling boos during the formal opening of the Sinulog festival's grand parade in Cebu Sunday.
The jeers erupted as suspended Mayor Michael Rama invited Binay and some city officials to join him onstage at the Cebu City Sports Center.
The boos grew louder as Binay, standard bearer of the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA), took to the stage.
Reports said the Vice President was forced to limit his speech to a greeting of good morning followed by "Viva Pit Senyor!"
Binay was accompanied by his running mate Senator Grigo Honasan, his son suspended Makati City Mayor Junjun Binay and several UNA senatorial candidates.
Despite being booed, Binay and his party seemingly remained unfazed and continued watching the presentation.
The Sinulog Festival, which commemorates the childhood of Jesus Christ, is held annually on the third Sunday of January.
