MANILA - Unlike employees of the Department of Labor and Employment, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) employees won't receive an anniversary bonus despite the praises heaped on them by the President during the agency's anniversary program.

Communications Secretary Sonny Coloma explained that anniversary bonuses are traditionally given when an agency celebrates a milestone anniversary.

"Doon yata po sa DOLE ay merong mga particular milestone kasi, ano, na halimbawa, ay golden jubilee o 40th (anniversary) kasi meron naman talagang annual na performance based bonus na pinapatupad," he said.

President Aquino on Thursday lambasted administration critics anew while lauding DSWD employees of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for their response during calamities.

Speaking at the agency's 63rd anniversary celebration, Aquino paid tribute to social workers for their dedication despite criticisms.

"Madalas, mas marami ang batikos kaysa pasasalamat, mas mahaba ang listahan ng reklamo kaysa papuri. Sa kabila nito, natutuwa ako, nabibilib ako, na wala akong nababalitaang isa man sa inyo na nagwagayway ng puting bandila para sabihing sumusuko na kami," he said.

The President also handed citations to DSWD employees Danny Bitara and Noemi Mongaya who survived a helicopter crash in December while on their way to a relief drive for "Yolanda" victims in Leyte.
