MANILA, Philippines - House Minority Leader Rep. Danilo Suarez said he has filed a resolution seeking a House of Representatives investigation into the alleged shootout that killed 13 people in Atimonan, Quezon.

Suarez said the committees on local government and public order and security should look into the Atimonan shootout because it is a matter of national concern and national security.

The minority leader plans to have his resolution read on Monday as soon as Congress resumes session. He said he will insist that the investigation on the shootout should start on Wednesday.

Suarez said that since it is the House of Representatives that allocates the budget of the Philippine National Police as representatives of the people, the public should know how their money is being spent.

If a committee investigation takes place, then most of the key players will be invited to the committee investigation.

He said he was surprised by reports that the House leadership will wait for the NBI investigation before conducting its own probe.
