MANILA – President Benigno Aquino III expressed no surprise at the increase in self-rated poverty as shown in a recent Social Weather Station (SWS) survey, saying it reflects the effects of typhoon Yolanda's onslaught.

In a BusinessWorld report on Monday, SWS said 11.8 million or 55% of families considered themselves poor.

Aquino said the government will continue to expand the coverage of the conditional cash transfer (CCT) program to include poor families with high school students.

He said that his administration would focus on providing "long-term" solutions such as the CCT, adding that he does not govern according to what the surveys say.
