MANILA, Philippines - Outgoing National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) executive director Benito Ramos will turn over the agency’s reins to retired Maj. Gen. Eduardo del Rosario starting Monday.
Ramos said he will assist del Rosario first before formally passing on the NDRRMC’s operations to him.
News came out on Friday that the well-loved Ramos has already resigned his post to take care of his ailing wife.
“Having endured the demands of my duties and responsibilities and believing that I have done my best in serving the OCD-DND and NDRRMC, my efficacy on the job is now being gravely affected. I now must yield this post for the sake of compassion to my ailing spouse in order to spend more time with her," he said in his resignation letter.
"I therefore seek your kind understanding for having reached this point of my life -- not to retreat from public service -- but to face the hard realities of lifetime partnership commitment in the most fundamental unit of society," he added.
Del Rosario was chief of the Task Force Kalihim, which conducted the search operations for the aircraft that carried the late Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo in August.
Del Rosario was former commander of the 2nd Infantry Division and acting commanding general of the South Luzon Command.
