MANILA, Philippines - Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas on Tuesday ordered the Philippine National Police (PNP) to conduct a thorough and credible investigation into the alleged gunbattle in Quezon province Sunday that killed 13 people.

Roxas issued the order following a briefing Tuesday with PNP Director General Alan Purisima.

The alleged shootout between police and soldiers against alleged members of the crime group led to the death of all of the suspects who include a ranking police official, 2 other PNP personnel and an Air Force sergeant.

“Gusto kong malaman nang klarong klaro kung ano talaga ang nangyari, at bakit may tatlong pulis at isang sundalong kasama sa mga hinihinalang kriminal na napatay,” Roxas said in a press statement.

"Ang gusto ko ay katotohanan; ayoko ng whitewash at bolahan," he added.

The DILG and the PNP will fully cooperate with other agencies looking into the issue, Roxas said.

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has taken a lead role in the investigation and will look into the possible criminal liability of those who took part in the operation.

The Commission on Human Rights, meanwhile, will look into allegations that the slain men were victims of summary execution.
