MANILA - Norway's Foreign Minister Børge Brende confirmed Tuesday that the Norwegian government will help in the reconstruction effort in Tacloban City and other areas devastated by supertyphoon "Yolanda."
Brende made the statement upon arrival at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport 1 for a three-day official visit to the Philippines. He arrived at the airport around 11:55 a.m. on board a Thai Airways flight from Norway via Bangkok.
Norway Ambassador to the Philippines Knut Solem and Philippine Ambassador to Norway Bayani Mercado welcomed the foreign minister at the airport.
Brende said a long term rebuilding plan will be laid out to the Philippine government during his scheduled meeting with Philippine President Benigno Aquino III.
Brende will personally visit Tacloban on Wednesday morning to further assess what other assistance will be extended by the government of Norway.
