JBC set to interview applicants for SC post

MANILA - The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) has released the schedule of public interviews for applicants to the Supreme Court (SC).

The screenings are in light of the early retirement of Associate Justice Martin Villarama, Jr. effective January 16, 2016. Villarama cited health reasons for his retirement.

The first batch of applicants will be interviewed on Thursday, from 9 a.m up to 5 p.m. Among them, Justice Secretary Alfredo Benjamin Caguioa and Sandiganbayan Presiding Justice Amparo Cabotaje-Tang.

Other applicants who are set to be interviewed on the same day are Joe-Santos B. Bisquera; Cinchona C. Cruz-Gonzales; Gerard A. Mosquera; Apolinario Bruselas, Jr.; Rosmari D. Carandang; and Maria Cristina J. Cornejo.

The second batch of applicants, which include Court of Appeals (CA) Presiding Justice Andres Reyes, Jr. and Solicitor General Florin Hilbay, will be interviewed on Friday, January 8, 2016, also from 9 a.m. up to 5 p.m. The other applicants in this batch are Stephen C. Cruz; Reynaldo B. Daway; Mariflor P. Punzalan-Castillo; Maria Gracia M. Pulido-Tan; Alex L. Quiroz; and Jose Reyes, Jr.

Any opposition to the applications of the above-mentioned individuals may be formally submitted to the JBC on or before January 4, 2016. The complaint must be duly notarized.
