Manobo warriorI’m going to be honest here. Reynan is my bet to win the finals. It’s hard to beat that soaring voice and a raw, honest, truly style that only bolsters his Manobo backstory. This is a boy who captures an audience’s imagination. His stance and movements are like that a small warrior-in-training who spends his days running free through vistas we seldom see. He has a family that delights in their child-like joy of music – as lost as Reynan is in the songs. He, like Lyca in season one, has a very strong sense of self. And so he knows exactly the message he wants to send out to the world. His are powerful messages and a weaker voice would not be able to stand up to the challenge. But more than that, Reynan is that magician who weaves tales so powerful you are flown to whatever world he is sharing. It is a magic rooted in the reality that he owns his stale – he is the main actor, the director and producer, and Lea should be thanked for giving him the respect due.You end up cheering him in "Tagumpay Nating Lahat" – the people in our living room were giving a standing ovation as he broke into the last chorus, and so were neighbors, as we could hear the cheers. You pray with him in “Amazing Grace”, one with his hope, even while wondering about the pain peering out of those eyes.In giving him, “Itanong Mo Sa Mga Bata,” Lea said she wanted to remind him of the joys of childhood. She meant well – and chose well. But then Reynan of the Manobo, he who is in touch with his world and his soul, ran away with it. Never has that Asin classic been so powerful – an indictment of everything that children learn -- that we wish they didn’t have to learn. All the pain and rage and questing in his 11-year-old heart. This was beyond “hugot.” Because even as we empathized, we knew instinctively that we could never follow completely into his personal pain.Reynan has the edge. One song will seal the trophy for him: “Bayan Ko” : The song, the voice, the times. But as all finals go, it’s back to square one. Every one of the Top Four will have to live up to the promise they have shown.
