MANILA, Philippines – James Pearce, Facebook’s head of developer advocacy, will visit the country this weekend to grace an event organized by local telecommunications firm Globe Telecom Inc.

The tech guru will discuss apps development using Facebook tools as well as an overview of the other new features of the social media site at the “Globe Labs Developers Day” scheduled on September 15.

Launched in 2008, the event aims to gather entrepreneurs, investors, app developers and app users.

“Since Facebook is one of the most visited sites in the country with 29.1 penetration rate, we decided to launch an event that could kickstart developers into creating applications using Facebook APIs (application programming interfaces) and give them the opportunity to engage with their prospective users. We are very honored that at this time, we have James Pearce as our guest speaker,” Michelle Santos, manager for developer relations of Globe Labs Digital Media, said in a statement.

The Globe Labs Developers Day will also feature apps by Filipino developers. Among them are “AlterSpace,” an environmental awareness app; “Eden Facebook API” which helps website connect to Facebook; and “Tagahuddle,” which aggregates photos of hashtags from social media sites.

“All in all, we are supporting local talent to reach their full potential by offering this rich environment for them to thrive,” Santos said.
