MANILA – A battle between giant robots may happen after an American company challenged a Japanese firm to a duel, and the latter accepted.
MegaBots, a Boston-based company, challenged Japan's Suidobashi Heavy Industries, creator of the Kuratas giant robot, to a duel against its Megabot Mark 2.
"Suidobashi, we have a giant robot, you have a giant robot; you know what needs to happen," says MegaBots co-founder Matt Oehrlein. "We challenge you to a duel."
The Mark 2 weighs six tons and is piloted by a team of two capable of firing three-pound paint cannonballs up to 100 miles per hour.
Kogoro Kurata, the man behind Kuratas, accepted Oehrlein’s challenge in a video in a similar theme.
“It’s really interesting. I’ll give them that,” Kurata said in Japanese.
“We can’t let another country win this. Giant robots are Japanese culture,” he added.
Oehrlein told Suidobashi to name a battlefield where their giant robots can face off in one year.
