MANILA, Philippines – Food buffs and cooking enthusiasts are in for a treat next year as the Hotel and Restaurant Association of the Philippines (HRAP) hosts the 28th edition of the Chefs on Parade (COP) culinary festival in February 2013.
Dubbed as the “grandest yet in its history,” this year’s COP will be held at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City from February 28 to March 3, 2013.
The event will feature a trade exhibit, cooking demonstrations, food workshops, seminars, competitions for students and professionals, and other gastronomic-related activities.
“We expect the same warm response as we stage Chefs on Parade 2013,” said Philippe Bartholomi, overall chairman of this year’s COP. “We made a great impact in 2011. For the industry and the public, Chefs on Parade is the most important hospitality and culinary event in the Philippines. We will present a world-class program. Our goal is to show that the Philippines can organize a great food show.”
Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez, for his part, said: “Now is the most exciting growth period of our republic. Chefs on Parade is an exciting example of what must be done because it is devoted to excellence.”
Last year, the COP attracted over 26,000 visitors, including 600 contestants from the Philippines and Southeast Asian countries and nearly a hundred guest chefs.
For 2013, the event will once again bring in Singapore-based Belgian chef Emmanuel Stroobant, host of the Asian Food Channel show “Chef in Black,” to conduct demos and judge in cooking competitions.
Two chefs from the Michelin-starred restaurants of the renowned Alain Ducasse – Jerome Lacressioniere and March Chalopin – will also be attending the culinary festival, as well as a master baker and a pastry chef from the Puratos Group, a worldwide supplier of baking and chocolate ingredients.
A total of 30 mixology and culinary contests on both professional and student categories will be held in this year’s COP 2013.
On top of these is a 286-booth trade exhibit that will feature for the first time a Wine Avenue (a showcase of local and international wines and spirits), and an Artisanal and Organic Food Avenue (a gathering of organic produce and artisan food), as well as the conferment of the second Larry J. Cruz award to an outstanding Filipino in the culinary field.
