Korina Sanchez recognized at Asian TV Awards

MANILA, Philippines -- ABS-CBN chief correspondent Korina Sanchez has been recognized at the 2012 Asian Television Awards (ATA) in Singapore.

The "TV Patrol" anchor was cited Thursday night as Highly Commended in the Best Current Affairs Presenter category, for the "Kwento ng Buhay Ko" episode of the ABS-CBN current affairs program "Rated K".

Barkha Dutt of India won the category.

Among the programs from the Philippines that were nominated at the 2012 ATA were: ABS-CBN's late-night newscast "Bandila" (Best News Programme), "ASAP Rocks" (Best Music Programme), and "The Bottomline with Boy Abunda" (Best Talk Show).

"Walang Hanggan" star Coco Martin, meanwhile, vied for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his portrayal in "Maalaala Mo Kaya." Teen actress Sharlene San Pedro was nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role, also for the long-running drama anthology.

Launched in 1996, ATA is composed of an expert panel of over 50 judges across Asia. 

The annual award-giving event is considered as among the region's most significant events that recognize excellence in broadcast programming.
