THE LIST: Top-rating shows in PH during Christmas

MANILA, Philippines – Any idea which shows had the highest ratings during Christmas Eve and Christmas Day over the past years?

Television audience measurement provider Kantar Media released data on the top-rating programs during Christmas Eve and Christmas Day of 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 during a press conference on Tuesday.

“We’ve been in the market for five years so the past four Christmases, in the spirit of the season, tinignan namin ano ‘yung mga matataas na programa on Christmas Day and Christmas Eve,” said Gabriel Buluran, Kantar Media's general manager.

“Even during Christmas walang holiday ang panonood ng TV ng sambayanang Pilipino,” he added. “It’s the same genre of programs, it’s generating the same amount of ratings.”

So, what were their findings? See the list below.

2008

1. I Love Betty La Fea (ABS-CBN)

What it is: The local adaptation of the Colombian series “Yo soy Betty, La Fea”, which tells the story of an unattractive yet brilliant career woman.

Who’s in it: Bea Alonzo and John Lloyd Cruz

2. Dyosa (ABS-CBN)

What it is: A Filipino fantasy series that revolves around a woman named Josephine, who is said to be the “chosen one.”

Who’s in it: Anne Curtis, Sam Milby, Zanjoe Marudo and Luis Manzano

3. Luna Mystika (GMA)

What it is: A Filipino fantasy/romance drama that revolves around twin sisters who switch roles every time the moon shows up.

Who’s in it: Heart Evangelista and Mark Anthony Fernandez

4. Carlo J. Caparas’ Gagambino (GMA)

What it is: An adaptation of Carlo J. Caparas’ graphic novel “Gagambino,” which tells the story of a man leading a band of superheroes and a giant spider.

Who’s in it: Dennis Trillo, Jean Garcia, Polo Ravales and Nadine Samonte

5. TV Patrol World (ABS-CBN)

What it is: A relaunched version of the country’s longest running evening newscast, “TV Patrol.”

Who’s in it: Ted Failon, Julius Babao and Karen Davila. Babao were eventually replaced with the original “TV Patrol” anchors Korina Sanchez and Noli de Castro.

6. Eva Fonda (ABS-CBN)

What it is: A remake of the 1976 Filipino film “Eva Fonda” starring Alma Moreno. It tells the story of an innocent yet very attractive woman named Eva.

Who’s in it: Cristine Reyes, Jason Abalos and Baron Geisler

7. 24 Oras (GMA)

What it is: The flagship newscast of GMA.

Who’s in it: Mel Tiangco and Mike Enriquez

8. LaLola (GMA)

What it is: The local adaptation of the Argentine series “LaLola.” It tells the story of Lalo, a man who was cursed and turned into a woman. He eventually referred to himself as Lola.

Who’s in it: Rhian Ramos and JC de Vera

9. Wowowee (ABS-CBN)

What it is: The defunct noontime variety show of ABS-CBN.

Who’s in it: Willie Revillame

10. Pinoy Fear Factor Argentina, South America with a Twist (ABS-CBN)

What it is: A reality show part of the “Fear Factor” franchise.

Who’s in it: Ryan Agoncillo as hosts, with contestants LJ Moreno, Phoemela Baranda, Janna Dominguez, among others

2009

1. Dahil May Isang Ikaw (ABS-CBN)

What it is: A Filipino drama series that tells the love story between two lawyers.

Who’s in it: Kristine Hermosa, Jericho Rosales, Gabby Concepcion, Lorna Tolentino, Chin Chin Gutierrez and John Estrada

2. May Bukas Pa (ABS-CBN)

What it is: A Filipino drama series that revolves around Santino, an orphan boy who has a supernatural friend named “Bro.”

Who’s in it: Zaijian Jaranilla, Dominic Ochoa, Albert Martinez and Dina Bonnevie

3. Pinoy Big Brother: Double Up (ABS-CBN)

What it is: The third regular season of the reality show “Pinoy Big Brother,” which is part of the “Big Brother” franchise.

Who’s in it: Toni Gonzaga, Mariel Rodriguez and Bianca Gonzalez as hosts, with housemates Melai Cantiveros, Jason Francisco and Sam Pinto, among others.

4. TV Patrol World (ABS-CBN)

What it is: A South Korean drama series that tells the love story between an aspiring scriptwriter and a famous actor.

Who’s in it: Rain and Song Hye-Kyo

7. Katorse (ABS-CBN)

What it is: A Filipino drama series that tells the story of a barrio lass who fell in love and got pregnant at the age of 14.

Who’s in it: Erich Gonzales, Ejay Falcon, Xian Lim, Enchong Dee

8. Boys Over Flowers: One More Time (ABS-CBN)

What it is: A South Korean drama series based on the Japanese manga “Hana Yori Dango.” It tells the story of a group of four wealthy boys called F4 and a girl from a poor family.

9. Wowowee (ABS-CBN)

What it is: The defunct noontime variety show of ABS-CBN.

What it is: A Christmas special aired on GMA. It features a heartwarming story featuring the country’s top artists.

2010

1. Emil Cruz’ Mara Clara (ABS-CBN)

What it is: A remake of the 1992 Filipino series “Mara Clara.” It tells the story of two girls switched at birth.

2. Imortal (ABS-CBN)

What it is: A Filipino fantasy horror drama that tells the love story between a vampire and a werewolf.

Who’s in it: Angel Locsin and John Lloyd Cruz

3. Noah (ABS-CBN)

What it is: A Filipino action fantasy series that tells the story of a man who lost his two-year-old son. The child grew up with apes in a mysterious island called Noah.

4. Precious Hearts Romances: Martha Cecilia’s Kristine (ABS-CBN)
