MANILA, Philippines – Beauty salon mogul Ricky Reyes is selling his much publicized mansion in Valle Verde in Pasig City to move to a smaller condominium unit in Greenhills.
According to a report from The Philippine Star published on Sunday, Reyes already has a buyer, who has paid him P5 million in earnest money.
The amount is more than enough to buy a decent house.
“I’m selling the house and everything in it, down to those huge chandeliers in the living room, lock, stock and barrel,” Reyes told the newspaper, adding that he and his family will only be taking with them some personal effects and artworks.
“It would be good if we could still stay here during the holidays, but we could move out anytime, even tomorrow,” he said of his house, which is built on a 2,300-square meter lot and comes with a high-ceilinged living room, a sprawling garden and four huge bedrooms.
Reyes was quick to add, however, that he is not selling his home because of financial problems. He stressed that he has only learned to “let go” of material possessions.
“When you reach a certain age, you start to let go of your material possessions… I want to be liquid. I don’t want to be the cause of trouble among my loved ones should I die,” the self-made businessman explained.
“How many rich, old matrons are left with no one to keep them company but maids in their huge mansions?” he added. “Their children, some of whom are abroad, visit them once in a while and that’s it.”
Aside from owning a chain of beauty salons, Reyes is also busy running a foundation for children afflicted with cancer. He said he is planning to buy a property to turn it into a resort-cum-retirement club for senior citizens.
The said resort, he added, will also have a church, a beauty parlor, grooming center, spa, restaurant and venues for events and socials.
