MANILA, Philippines – Months after opening a dealership in Manila, Italian sports car manufacturer Ferrari unveiled one of its newest models for the Philippine market.

The Ferrari California 30, a two-door Grand Tourer (GT), was presented at the Autostrada Showroom in Bonifacio Global City on Wednesday.

The California 30 is an update of the Ferrari California, which was first launched in Paris in 2008.

It is distributed by Autostrada Motore Inc., the Philippines’ official importer of Ferrari cars.

Marc Soong, Autostrada executive director, explained the significance of the number 30 in the latest California model.

“The car is 30 kilos lighter, 30 horsepower more, which brings it to a maximum of 490 horsepower,” said Soong.

The California 30 is powered by a naturally aspirated V8 engine, which is capable of propelling the car to 100 kilometers per hour in just 3.8 seconds.

It can produce a maximum torque of 505 Newton meters at 5,000 revs per minute and can zoom its way to a maximum speed of 312 kilometers per hour.

Despite its lighter weight, Ferrari was able to maintain the California 30’s rigidity.
“The new Ferrari California 30 retains structural rigidity, thanks to cutting-edge aluminium fabrication techniques used by the Scaglietti Centre of Excellence and the application of an innovative casting process called CORDIS core technology,” Soong said.

He added that many Ferrari innovations have been  introduced in its California model, including front engine placement, direct petrol injection for increased fuel efficiency and high power output, folding metal hardtop, dual-clutch transmission for a smooth driving experience, and multi-link rear suspension which maintains handling to improve the ride.

Ferrari opened its Philippine dealership through Autostrada Motore Inc. last March, when it introduced the popular Ferrari 458 Italia to the local market.

Autostrada Motore Inc’s chairman and president, Wellington Soong, said California 30 continues the Ferrari tradition of crafting high performance engines, sleek designs, luxurious interior amenities, and additional high-end features.

“The Ferrari California is very agile and easy to drive hard. The Ferrari bloodline ensures exceptional performance, as well as the California distinction of comfort and practicality in a Grand Tourer (GT),” said the elder Soong.
