MANILA – Before heading to Tacloban and other areas in the Visayas hit by super typhoon “Yolanda” (international name Haiyan), Miss World 2013 Megan Young will first drop by Hong Kong.

Writing on her blog on the Miss World website, Young said she has been taking part in fundraising activities in the United States for typhoon survivors in the Visayas.

“We also went to LA to meet with the consul at the Beverly Hills Country Club. It was a good night because once again, we were able to raise money for the Philippines. I wish I could’ve stayed longer but we had to move on to our next destination: Hong Kong!” she wrote in the blog entry posted on Monday.

“It has been a very busy month for me. As you all know, the Philippines was struck by typhoon Haiyan. Almost 11 million people were affected by the monstrous storm. I want to do as much as I can for my countrymen and that’s why we’ve been campaigning in every country we go to,” she added.

Young is set to return to the Philippines on Wednesday to visit those who have been affected by “Yolanda.”

In an interview with the Associated Press uploaded on YouTube, Young said they will use the proceeds from Miss World’s fundraising efforts in the US to help typhoon survivors.

While she is not sure if she is “emotionally ready” to visit hard-hit Tacloban, the Philippines’ first ever Miss World winner said “it doesn’t matter because I’m just going to go there and see what I can do.”
