MANILA, Philippines – Moving away from its usual Filipino theme, the century-old Manila Hotel takes inspiration from the popular fairy tale “The Nutcracker” this Christmas season.
Last week, Manila Hotel unveiled its newly decorated lobby with huge nutcracker statues and a giant Christmas tree decked with candy canes, balls and Nutcracker dolls.
There is also a gingerbread house filled with different types of sweets, from Christmas trees made of chocolate pralines to an assortment of breads and pastries.
In keeping with the theme, staircases are also lined with poinsettias, while the staff members of the hotel are dressed in “Nutracker” costumes.
“Christmas comes early at the Manila Hotel,” said Manila Hotel president Atty. Joey Lina. “Our Christmas celebration this year is inspired by ‘The Nutcracker’ story.”
Room packages, restaurant offers and performances at the hotel this Christmas have also been made to fit the “Nutcracker” theme. Manila Hotel’s Taproom and Lobby Lounge, for instance, are offering cocktails inspired by the popular Christmas fairy tale.
Its long-standing restaurant, the Champagne Room, meanwhile serves comforting dishes such as Gingerbread Stuffed Chicken and Roasted Chestnut Soup.
As a special treat, prima ballerina Lisa Macuja will also be performing the “Nutcracker” ballet at the hotel on weekends.
