Singapore food fest at Paseo Uno

Ongoing at the Paseo Uno restaurant of the Mandarin Oriental, Manila is the “Sensational Singapore” food festival featuring guest chef Eric Cheam, the executive sous chef of Mandarin Oriental, Singapore.

Cheam creates traditional and contemporary Singaporean dishes that will be incorporated into Paseo Uno’s lunch and dinner buffets such as ainanese Chicken Rice, Beef Rendang, Chili Crab, Singapore Fish Head Curry, Satay, Hokkien Prawn Noodle Soup, Singapore Rojak with Shrimp Paste, Gula Melaka Sago and Almond Pudding with Longgan, among others. The buffet is priced at P1,880+ while the luxury buffet, available for dinner on Fridays and Saturdays and lunch on Sundays, is priced at P2380+.

Diners also have a chance to win a roundtrip ticket from Singapore Airlines plus a three-day/two-night stay at the Mandarin Oriental, Singapore in a raffle draw at the end of the promotion. Other prizes are also at stake.

Cheam will also hold a cooking class on Saturday, November 24, at 9 a.m. and teach participants how to prepare authentic Chili Crab, Bak Kut Teh and Cheng Teng. The class fee is P3,500 nett, inclusive of a three-course lunch and a light breakfast preceding the class.

The food festival is ongoing until November 25.

Wine dinner and auction

Forth & Tay is hosting the “Hardys Wine Dinner and Auction” at the Turf Room of the Manila Polo Club on Thursday, November 22, at 6:30 p.m. The evening consists of a four-course dinner with wine pairings to be followed by a live auction. Several of Hardys award winning wines will be served and auctioned at the event.
Guests can also get the opportunity to dine with Bill Hardy, corporate oenologist, brand ambassador and fifth-generation descendant of Thomas Hardy, the founder of Hardys wines. Started in 1853, Hardys is one of Australia's pioneering wineries and the world's fifth most powerful wine brand which has recently received the highest possible winery rating of five red stars in James Halliday's 2013 Australian Wine Companion.

Some of the award-winning wines to be served at the four-course dinner include Hardys Oomoo Adelaide Hills Chardonnay 2007; HRB/ D651 Chardonnay 2010, the much-awarded Eileen Hardy Shiraz 2005 and a scarce 15-year-old Hardys 1997 Vintage Port.

Several lots of the Hardys portfolio, as well as autographed memorabilia, will be up for grabs at the live auction following dinner. Among these are a magnum bottle of Eileen Hardy Shiraz 1997, select bottles of Eileen Hardy Chardonnay 2003, Eileen Hardy Shiraz 2003, HRB Chardonnay 2007 and HRB/D636 Cabernet Sauvignon 2006.
Part of the proceeds from the evening benefit will go to the charity Fostering Education and Environment for Development (FEED), an NGO dedicated to the sustainable development, preservation and rehabilitation of forests, farms and the environment in the Philippines. FEED will also be auctioning a Pointillist art piece by Filipino artist Nena Saguil.

Thanksgiving at the Pen

The Peninsula Manila celebrates Thanksgiving on Thursday, November 22, in three of its restaurants: The Lobby, Escolta and Old Manila.

The Lobby offers a special three-course lunch and dinner menu at P1,250++ per adult and P750++ per child under 12. Escolta features a Thanksgiving lunch buffet at P1,350++ per adult and P810++ per child under 12. The dinner buffet is P1,450++ per adult and P870++ per child under 12.

Old Manila, meanwhile, offers a four-course lunch and dinner menu at P1,750++ per person.

The Makati hotel also reminds its patrons that they have 10 days left to enjoy The Lobby's Beers and Burgers promo. Reyes Barbecue opens new stores

Reyes Barbecue recently opened two new stores at the Robinsons Magnolia and Festival malls.
