MANILA, Philippines – Binibining Pilipinas Universe 2012 Janine Tugonon said she has been working out every single day in preparation for this year’s Miss Universe pageant.
Tugonon, who won first runner-up in last year’s Binibining Pilipinas, will leave the Philippines on December 2 for the Miss Universe pageant, which will be held in Las Vegas on December 19 (December 20 in Manila).
“Every day po [I’ve been working out]. And we have one-on-one trainings pa,” said Tugonon, who now has a waistline of 23.5 inches, in an interview on ABS-CBN morning talk show “Kris TV” on Monday.

The beauty queen also explained why the prestigious pageant has been moved to December. “They gave way sa Olympics at sa elections ng United States. So minove nila nang minove,” she said.
Tugonon is widely believed to have a shot at being crowned the world’s beautiful woman, following the runner-up finishes of her predecessors in the past two Miss Universe pageants – her friend Shamcey Supsup won third runner-up in last year’s competition, while Venus Raj placed fourth runner-up in 2010.
A cum laude Pharmacy graduate of the University of Santo Tomas, Tugonon won in campus beauty pageants such as Miss Thomasian Personality in 2010 and Miss Pharmacy in 2009.
“I’m asking po sa help ng buong Pilipinas to please vote for me. I think magsta-start na siya sa November 15, it’s online voting,” she said, referring to the pageant’s People’s Choice award.
“Sa mga Filipino community po in the United States, I hope you can watch it live sa Las Vegas on December 19,” she added.
The Philippines is still hoping to produce its third Miss Universe winner after Gloria Diaz and Margie Moran.
This year’s Miss Universe pageant will be aired live on ABS-CBN on December 20.
