MANILA, Philippines – Uniqlo is set to open its second branch in the country this week, five months after Japan’s No. 1 fashion brand was introduced to Filipinos through its flagship store at the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City.
The branch at The Block of SM North EDSA in Quezon City, which is said to be of the same size as the 1,550-square meter outlet at the SM Mall of Asia, is scheduled to have its grand opening on Friday, November 16.
During the launch, selected items such as graphic tees will be offered at discounted prices, Uniqlo Philippines said in a post on its Facebook page.
The Japanese clothing brand also recently mounted a styling event dubbed “Uniqstyle,” where fashion bloggers were given the chance to win gift certificates.
Uniqlo looks to expand its foothold not only in Asia but also in the global market as it aims to become the world’s No. 1 company by 2020.
Here in the Philippines, Uniqlo is expected to face tough competition from international brands such as Cotton On, Zara, Topshop, Forever 21 and Gap, as well as local names Bench and Penshoppe.
To make the brand more familiar to Filipinos, Uniqlo has tapped celebrities Iza Calzado, Nikki Gil, Chris Tiu and Chito Miranda as its local endorsers.
Uniqlo is set to open four more branches in Metro Manila by August next year.
