MANILA -- American rock band Matchbox Twenty will no longer be performing in the Philippines on Friday due to the looming landfall of super typhoon "Yolanda."
The one-night performance was set to be held at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
The local promoter of the concert, in a statement released Thursday, said the band was "very disappointed" that they could not push through with the concert.
"The uncertain weather situation has made it impossible for [Matchbox Twenty] to go to Manila," the statement read.
Yolanda, packing maximum sustained winds of 215 kilometers per hour, is expected to make landfall over the southern Samar-Leyte area on Friday morning, according to PAGASA.
Matchbox Twenty rose to fame for its album titled “Yourself or Someone Like You” in 1996. Among their worldwide hits are “Bent,” “Unwell” and “If You’re Gone,”
Fans of who bought tickets to the group's Manila concert can refund their tickets by calling SM Tickets at 02-4702222 or proceed directly to the outlet where the ticket was purchased.
