MANILA - Singer and actress KC Concepcion has made Philippine music history with the song "Impossible", according to a representative from Sony BMG Philippines.
The song, included in Concepcion's first album "a.k.a. Cassandra", was reportedly downloaded a million times from mobile service providers like Globe, ever since the song's release around 4 months ago.
"I'd like to mention that KC has the most number of downloads ever in the Philippines. Naka 1 million mark na kami for 'Impossible.' Wala pang nakaka-achieve nuon. Si KC palang. Sobrang hit ang 'Impossible'," Vic Valenciano, Artist and Repertoire (A&R) Director of Sony BMG Philippines, told abs-cbnNEWS.com.
Valenciano is currently in Boracay Island, Aklan for the Nescafe 3in1 SoundSkool, a yearly competition among some of the best college bands in the country.
Sony Music, one of the event sponsors, will automatically give an exclusive contract to one of the 13 finalists of this year's SoundSkool battle of the bands.
The SoundSkool Grand Finals night will be held at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium on November 14.
'Big following'
Valenciano believes the success of "Impossible" may be partly driven by Concepcion's popularity as an actress.
"Lahat ng contributing factor (to make her song a hit nandoon). KC is KC even if she's not performing or acting. Shes's really popular," the executive said.
He admitted, though, that there is still "some room for improvement" in terms of Concepcion's singing career. "She has a big following na pwede pa naming i-tap," he said.
Sony Music is reportedly planning to come out with Concepcion's second album "in a month's time." Valenciano said the album is halfway through to its completion by December or January.
He said that in order to make Concepcion's second album different from her first CD, Sony BMG is considering having a duet between Concepcion and her mother, Megastar Sharon Cuneta.
"Pwedeng pagsamahin [sila]. Kasama sa plano 'yon. Kasama sa talks 'yon. Even a duet with her mom is nasa plano," Valenciano said.
Hit musicians
Aside from Concepcion, Sony Music also named some of their artists who make it to the top in terms of their albums' sales.
"So far kasi, puro mga pop artists ang bumebenta sa amin ngayon like KC, sila Sharon, sila Leah Salonga. Sa mga bands naman namin, malakas pa din [ang] Callalilly, Pupil - Pupil is doing well. And 6 Cycle Mind is doing well. 'Yon ang current bands namin na bumebenta," he said.
Currently, Callalilly and 6 Cycle Mind are also in Boracay to perform as band mentors to SoundSkool finalists.
Pupil, with its frontman Ely Buendia, will hold SoundSkool workshops, teaching young musicians how to improve their song-writing skills this Saturday, November 7. Report by Reyma Buan-Deveza, abs-cbnNEWS.com.
