Boracay spas in shortlist for AsiaSpa Awards

MANILA, Philippines – Several Philippine spas – mostly in the resort island of Boracay – made it to the nominee shortlist for this year’s AsiaSpa Awards, which will be given out next month in Hong Kong.

Tirta Spa in Boracay made the shortlist for Day Spa of the Year and Men’s Spa of the Year, competing with spas from Hong Kong, Thailand, China and other known destinations.

Mandala Spa at Boracay’s Mandala Spa and Villas and Nurture Spa Village in Tagaytay City are both shortlisted for Spa Retreat of the Year. Mandala Spa also made the shortlist for Eco-Spa of the Year.

Skinetics Wellness Center in Iloilo City was shortlisted for Medi-Spa of the Year, while The Sanctuary Spa of the Atmosphere Resorts & Spa in Maayong Tubig Dauin, Negros Oriental made the cut for Spa Design of the Year.

The “Palina Hilot Massage” offered at CHI, The Spa at Shangri-La's Boracay Resort & Spa made the shortlist for Spa Treatment of the Year, while the “Mandala Detox Retreat” offered at Mandala Spa and Villas is nominated for Holistic Treatment of the Year.

The Philippines will be competing for Asian Spa Capital of the Year against Australia, Bali, Bangalore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Shanghai, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

Now on its eighth year, the 2012 AsiaSpa Awards will be held on November 15 at the W Hong Kong.

“As a true reflection of excellence, the awards have evolved to include 24 categories and are judged by the industry's top leaders,” the awards organizers said in a statement.

Among the judges is Filipino Jomar Fleras, president of PHILWELL, formerly the Spa Association of the Philippines, Inc., which is also up for Spa Association of the Year.
