MANILA - The family and friends of Sen. Manuel "Mar" Roxas and wife Korina Sanchez-Roxas had nothing but good wishes for the newlywed couple.

The Roxases had married at the Sto. Domingo Church in Quezon City, in front of over 2,000 guests, including celebrities, members of the media, businessmen, government officials, and the masses.

Roxas's son, Paolo Gerardo Zaldarriaga, who served as best man to his father, said he was happy about the day's turn of events. "I'm really excited," a media-shy Zaldarriaga said before the ceremony.

Zaldarriaga, 16, is Roxas's son with 1971 Miss Young Philippines Maricar Zaldarriaga. The beauty queen once served in the Employers' Confederation of the Philippines.

The bride's brothers, meanwhile, said they were relieved that their sister had found "the right man for her."

Sanchez-Roxas, 45, is the second eldest child and only girl among 3 brothers.

"I'm happy that she's finally settling down. And you know, it's about time," said her brother Mickey Sanchez.

"At least now, may mag-aalaga na sa kanya. Kasi siya nag-aalaga sa mga kapatid niya eh. Now, for a change, somebody - the right guy - finally came," said her other brother Milano, who is the president of the Asian Bartending Academy.

Sanchez-Roxas's brother, EG, meanwhile, lamented that their parents - Ramon and Cecilia - did not live to see their daughter's wedding day.

"I'm sure Mom and Dad would have enjoyed this moment," he said.

'A married woman'

Paolo Zaldarriaga, son of Sen. Manuel "Mar" Roxas, avoids media scrutiny as much as possible.

Sanchez-Roxas's best friends from St. Theresa's College and Maryknoll College Foundation (now Miriam College) also wished the couple well.

"I always pictured her as a married woman. But it just took so long," said Erica Manosa, a bridesmaid and childhood friend of the bride since prep school.

The maid of honor, Dang Cecilio-Palanca, described the bride as "a very warm and gentle person" who "just wants to be accepted and loved."

Some of the junior bridesmaids also gave their two cents' worth.

"I wish that they will have a happy life and all their wishes will come true," said Tyra Sanchez, the bride's niece.

Another niece of the bride, Maya Sanchez, said: "Tito Mar, please take care of Tita Korina because me and Tyra love her so much."

Members of the newlywed's wedding entourage and immediate family members - numbering around 2,000 - drove to the Bahay na Puti, the Roxases' ancestral home in Cubao, for an intimate dinner.

Afterwards, the couple are set to honeymoon in Japan for 8 days, before launching on a longer honeymoon in December. Report by Niña Corpuz, ABS-CBN News.
