MANILA, Philippines – From being an ordinary student athlete, Kiefer Ravena has become one of the country’s top product endorsers.
Surpassing even local celebrities who regularly appear on soaps and sitcoms, the star guard of the Ateneo de Manila Blue Eagles is promoting items from basketball-related goods to mobile services, gadgets, pizza, multivitamins, chocolate drinks and freshly squeezed juices.
His newest endorsement is Fotosnaps, a web-to-print software that lets Filipinos create their own photo products such as calendars, cards and even coffee table books.
“We’re family friends with Tita Liezl, one of the co-owners of Fotosnaps,” Ravena told ABS-CBNnews.com when asked how he ended up as one of the endorsers, along with comedienne Giselle Sanchez and radio DJ Cerah Hernandez.
“I thought that this is quite applicable right now since with Fotosnaps, [my friends and fans] can print our photos into a book and I can sign them, hindi na sila mahihirapan. I get to be with the people who make me [into who I am today],” he added.
Asked how he feels about his newfound fame, Ravena said: “The brands have their eyes on you and they trust you. Very fortunate ako na ako ‘yung tinitignan nila and ako ‘yung kinuha nilang endorser eh ang dami-dami namang players na magagaling dito sa Pilipinas pero ako ‘yung nase-separate nila.
“Very thankful ako kay Lord and of course, to my Ateneo family also, na kung hindi dahil sa kanila ay hindi ako magiging si Kiefer Ravena ngayon.”
The star athlete is also open to the idea of joining showbiz, but not at the expense of his career as a professional basketball player.
“Siguro hosting would be, as of the moment, the max kind of showbiz na kaya ko and at the same time ‘yung gusto ko,” he said. “Basketball is still my priority.”
Ravena is currently one of the biggest basketball players in the UAAP, with his Blue Eagles team winning its fifth straight title after beating the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers early this month.

The star athlete shared that he became acquainted with basketball, which he considers his first love, because of his father, former PBA star Bong Ravena.
“My dad is a basketball player. I grew up watching him play,” he explained, adding that being active in sports “runs in the family.”
“My mom was an athlete, too. So, all-around, it was very hard not to play something kasi lahat kami naglalaro, active talaga kami lahat.”
But he was quick to add that he was not pressured into following in his father’s footsteps. “My dad is the probably the biggest influence in my life, tinutulungan niya talaga ako to focus. Hindi naman niya ako pinilit, pero personally he saw something in me na gusto ko talaga magbasketball. That’s why he helped me all throughout my career, even until now.”
Not surprisingly, Ravena has his eyes set on a career as a professional basketball player. But he also considers his current course, BS Communications Technology Management, in his future plans.
“At the same time, I want to have a business on my own, something to keep me floating after basketball. You always have to have a fallback,” he said.
“[If I weren’t into basketball] I’d probably be focused on studies. I’m BS Comtech Management. Kaya ko siya pinili kasi with comm, I get to learn how to speak which I could use probably with hosting, and management, that’s my business perspective. Kaya perfect for me.”
