MANILA, Philippines -- A waiter for a time before he became a popular actor in the 90s, Marvin Agustin is now among the best entrepreneurs in the country.

Agustin, an actor and a culinary enthusiast, bagged the Young Entrepreneur award on Thursday during the Entrepreneur of the Year 2012 Philippines awards banquet.

"Wag sila matakot to achieve what they want to have in their lives," the former Kapamilya actor said as he received the award.

"Walang magiging hadlang -- poverty, challenges, even education -- actually it's just you, yourself na mag-determine kung mag-succeed kayo," added Agustin, who had just opened his latest business venture in September.

According to the actor, his newest restaurant, Kung Fu Kitchen, takes inspiration from the US restaurant chain Panda Express, which is known for its fast casual service and Chinese-American cuisine.

The first branch of Kung Fu Kitchen is only one among Agustin's successes as an entrepreneur. The former actor manages over 20 restaurants in the country, including branches of Sumo Sam, John & Yoko, Oyster Boy and Marciano's.

Although more popularly known as an actor, and half of the "Marvin-Jolina" love team in the 90s, Agustin's culinary interest goes a long way back.

Before starring in a number of TV and film projects, he worked as a waiter for a restaurant in Alabang before being promoted as part of its marketing team.

Following his success as an actor, Agustin graduated from the International School for Culinary Arts and Hotel Management. -- with a report from Jekki Pascual, ANC
