MANILA, Philippines - ABS-CBN's The Filipino Channel (TFC) has initiated the "Adopt A Runner" program to encourage global Filipinos to take part in the historic 10.10.10 Run for the Pasig River.

The program allows TFC subscribers to register runners to participate in the event on their behalf by paying a small fee. Each "adopted" runner gets an exclusive TFC jersey.

Jeffrey Remigio, ABS-CBN Global corporate affairs head, said this will give them a chance to take part in the fund-raising effort even if they're outside the country.

Remigio said they are expecting a huge number of "adopted" runners in this year's run, citing the "generous support" provided by TFC subscribers in ABS-CBN Foundation's previous projects.

"We realize how rehabilitating the Pasig River can change some perceptions of our country and we want to encourage TFC subscribers to join us in this crusade," he said.

Remigio continued, "For sure, there are other Filipinos out there who are just so willing to give and are eager to help revive our nation."

"Fighter of the Decade" Manny Pacquiao is among the 140,000 runners who will take part in the Run for the Pasig River on October 10, 2010.

He will participate in the 10-kilometer run, the longest category in the race. Other categories include 3-kilometer and 5-kilometer runs.

Aside from Pacquiao, other celebrities set to join the 10.10.10 run include Piolo Pascual, Karylle, Luis Manzano, Pokwang, Angel Aquino, Cheska Garcia-Kramer, Aaron Atayde, Jovit Baldivino, Melai Cantiveros and Jason Francisco, among others. -- Report from ABS-CBN Global
