Zac Efron to have PH 'FanCon' on Sept. 29

MANILA, Philippines – Aside from meeting 12,000 of his adoring Filipino fans, Hollywood actor Zac Efron has a few other things in mind when he visits the country at the end of this month.

"I want to see the beaches," Efron was quoted as saying in the Philippine Daily Inquirer, when asked what he intends to do on a possible holiday visit to the Philippines.

For his September 29 visit to the country -- his first -- Efron will be officially launched as an endorser of local clothing line Penshoppe. And as expected of an event featuring an "A list" international celebrity, the Penshoppe Fan Conference at the SM Mall of Asia Arena will reportedly accommodate over 12,000 of Efron's Pinoy followers.

"They told me it’s the best clothing brand in the Philippines," the Hollywood heartthrob said of Penshoppe.

"I learned about how they started and their history. It’s an original Pinoy brand. My style mixes great with Penshoppe’s. I’m very casual -- a T-shirt-and-jeans kind of guy, and at the same time I want to look nice," he added.

Efron's involvement with Penshoppe comes as a first for the 24-year-old actor -- as it is the only retail brand he endorses.

His first visit to the Philippines, likewise, will see a lot of firsts for Efron, who already has a list of "to-do's" for a possible holiday stay in any of its world-famous beaches.

"I want to swim with the whale sharks, go on a mountain adventure, try the food like adobo and balut, and just hang with my friends over there," Efron said. "Oh, and I also want to learn how to waterski!"

The "High School Musical" star's first step on Philippine soil has actually been a long time coming.

His father, Dave, served under the Merchant Marines for a time. His post entailed frequent visits to the Philippines, Mindoro in particular.

"Sometimes my father will disappear for weeks 'cause he's enjoying the Philippines so much. So I’ve always wanted to come and visit,” Efron said.

"Zac has always had this curiosity and/or mystique over the Philippines since he was a kid," added Dave, who will be accompanying his son to the country on the 29th. "The beaches there are lovely and we can’t wait to come!"

Now with only less than a month before he sees the Philippines in person, Efron said he "can't wait" to finally see his Pinoy fans.
