MANILA, Philippines – Singer Kuh Ledesma added another feather in her cap by showcasing her skills as a painter with a solo exhibit.

Ledesma said she will temporarily leave singing to continue living her high school dream of becoming a visual artist.

Singer Kuh Ledesma shows off own paintings.

“I really want to inspire people kasi 40 years hindi ako nagpinta. In high school when I graduated, nag-exhibit ako eh pero sa papel lang, nirolyo ko tapos pagsakay ko sa taxi pag-uwi ko, nilagay ko sa likod tapos nakalimutan ko siya,” she said before the opening of her exhibit on Thursday at Whitespace Gallery in Makati.

“And then I went to college so nalimutan ko ang painting. After college, nag-singing and then I became very busy. But to compensate for the absence of painting, bumibili na lang ako ng painting sa mga ibang tao,” the singer added.

Ledesma, who is also a nurse and an entrepreneur, showed ABS-CBN News her paintings.

Her first painting exhibit titled “Unexpected” displayed her acrylic drawings, which she said were her “God things.”

“Basically I call this my God thing. It’s a God thing kasi matagal ko nang pinagdadasal. Sabi ko ‘Lord alam ko marunong ako mag-pinta pero paano ko ba uumpisahan?' It was a process of 'yung prayer din asking the Lord,” she said.

Ledesma said her desire to express herself in art was all bottled up but it was God who helped her start paintaing again.

"I like to put things together myself. I want to express my art in the way that I want to so that’s why we thought about this. Akala ko I would never paint again kasi ang dami ko nang ginagawa. Pero talagang when we ask God, He helps us eh,” she said.
