MANILA, Philippines – Airport authorities are set to recognize the efforts of a janitor who returned a bag filled with cash that he found at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
Speaking to dzMM, janitor Ronald Gadayan said he will be honored at the flag ceremony at NAIA on October 1.
“Sabi po sa akin, sa October 1 pararangalan daw po ako. Ako ‘yung magfla-flag ceremony po daw,” said Gadayan, who returned a designer bag containing over P600,000 in cash as well as keys and important documents to a Cebu-based businessman.
Asked what made him refuse the temptation of money, he said: “Ang prinsipyo ko po kasi, sabi sa akin ng mga magulang ko, na ‘pag may nakita kang bagay na hindi sa’yo, ‘wag mong pag-interesan. Kasi nga, hindi sa’yo.”
Gadayan, who goes home to Norzagaray, Bulacan each day, was cleaning glass windows when he saw the bag on a chair at the boarding area of NAIA terminal 2.
When no one claimed that bag after an hour, he decided to hand it over to the airport’s lost and found area, where they found out that it contains a huge sum of money.
That same day, they were able to return the bag to the Cebu-based businessman.
“Kahit salamat lang, wala namang problema sa akin eh,” Gadayan said when asked if the owner of the bag gave him any reward.
