MANILA, Philippines -- An audio recording of Tony winner Lea Salonga singing "The Mountain's Heart" from her upcoming musical in the United States "Allegiance" has been uploaded on YouTube by The Old Globe theater.
The clip also shows rehearsal photos, while Salonga sings the duet with co-star Michael K. Lee, who first worked with the Filipina during the Manila run of "They're Playing Our Song."
"Allegiance," an epic story of family, love and patriotism set during the Japanese American internment of World War II, starts previous on September 7, with opening night on September 19. It runs until October 21.
Apart from Salonga, the musical, which takes plays 60 years after the attack on Pearl Harbor, also features actor George Takei of "Star Trek" fame and Telly Leung, who starred in the Broadway revival of "Flower Drum Song" with Salonga.
Several Filipinos are also in the cast of "Allegiance," including Paolo Montalban, who appeared in the Filipino movie "American Adobo," Marc dela Cruz of "Prison Dancer" and Jon Jon Briones, who was in the original West End cast of "Miss Saigon" with Salonga.
On Monday, Salonga said on Twitter, "Oh my goodness, ALLEGIANCE ROCKS!!! Jay Kuo's music and Lynne Shankel's orchestrations are such a perfect fit."
