MANILA - Filipino netizens were abuzz after it was revealed that state weather bureau PAGASA censored "Kanor" from its list of names for tropical cyclones in the country this year.
The state weather bureau on Tuesday said it replaced the name with "Karding," after "Kanor" was allegedly drawing negative feedback from the public.
The move left many netizens cracking jokes.
Social media sites Twitter and Facebook were flooded with humor and questions pertaining to the name, which is linked to a man in a sex video scandal.
Who is Mang Kanor?
"Mang Kanor" is the moniker given to an old man whose sex video scandal with a young girl spread like wildfire online a few years ago.
No one is sure about his real identity but one claim said "Mang Kanor" was a cop.
His name has become a meme of sorts and parody "Mang Kanor" accounts on social media have surfaced.
A parody short clip of a fake movie on "Mang Kanor" has also been made.
