Beyond races: What to do in Singapore's Grand Prix season

MANILA – Planning to go to Singapore this September? The city-state offers something for everyone as it holds its Grand Prix season next month.

Themed “One Stop Non Stop”, this year’s Grand Prix Season Singapore (GPSS) will be held across the island from September 12 to 21. Parties, food and retail offerings, exhibits and even a display of equestrian techniques await participants and visitors.

Ticket holders can also look forward to in-circuit concert headliners such as Jennifer Lopez, Robbie Williams, John Legend, Pet Shop Boys, Ziggy Marley and Filipino singer-songwriter Carlos Castaño.

“We are thrilled with a jam-packed lineup of events at GPSS this year. With the diverse suite of lifestyle offerings at Grand Prix Season Singapore 2014, Filipinos can truly enjoy an even more dynamic and exhilarating season around the clock in close proximity to the Marina Bay Circuit,” said Adrian Kong, area director for Philippines and Brunei of Singapore Tourism Board.

Here are other events lined up in GPSS 2014:


Auspicious Designs: Batik for Peranakan Altars

When: Until December 28
Where: The Peranakan Museum
What it is: An exhibit that features batik altar cloths which reflect elements of Chinese Peranakan life in Southeast Asia.

A Century of Motor Racing in Singapore

When: September 12 to 21
Where: National Museum
What it is: An event where visitors can learn about the history of motor racing in Singapore.

Art and History Tours at Gillman Barracks

When: September 13 to 14
Where: Gillman Barracks
What it is: An outdoor walking tour on art and history presented by the Friends of the Museum Singapore.

Racing through the Senses

When: September 18 to 21
Where: Singapore Art Museum
What it is: An exhibit featuring contemporary art in Singapore and other parts of Southeast Asia.

Chinatown Mid-autumn Festival

When: September 23 to 28
Where: Singapore’s Chinatown
What it is: A celebration of the mid-autumn festival in Singapore’s Chinatown district.

Where: White Theatre Tent, Bayfront Avenue (beside Marina Bay Sands)
What it is: A fresh mix of equestrian stunts and performing arts, live music, multimedia and special effects.

Full Steam Ahead

When: September 13
Where: Tanjong Beach Club
What it is: A 12-hour beach party featuring DJ Aldrin, Jon White and KFC. There will also be fire twirlers, a war paint teepee and an infinity pool.

Zouk: GH Mumm Champagne

When: September 19
Where: Zouk Singapore
What it is: A party featuring acclaimed international DJ Dash Berlin.

Parties at Podium Lounge

When: September 19 to 21
Where: The Ritz Carlton, Millenia
What it is: An event featuring a race-inspired dinner by 3-Michelin star chef Quique Dacosta, a tribute to F1 racing legend James Hunt, parties with international DJs, and performances from acclaimed Cuban percussionist Pablo Calzado. There will also be a live auction of F1 memorabilia where proceeds go to a good cause.

What it is: A lineup of international DJs and an international spread of gastronomic delights await those who will visit Singapore’s highest ultra lounge and al fresco bar.

Poolside Pitstop

When: September 19 to 21
Where: Pan Pacific Hotel
What it is: A pool party featuring international guest DJs.

Bacchanalia Brunch Party

When: September 20
Where: Orchid Main Ballroom, Marina Bay Sands
What it is: A champagne-fueled brunch featuring music by celebrity DJs such as DJ Mel Debarge, DJ Stephen Day and DJ Modium.

Parties at Amber Lounge

When: September 20 to 21
Where: Temasek Reflection (water behind Millenia Walk)
What it is: Amber Lounge is the world’s most exclusive Grand Prix nightlife experience that follows the race series around the globe. It includes the Amber Lounge Fashion Show featuring F1 drivers on the runway, as well as live performances and celebrities.
