MANILA - Actress-host Kris Aquino gave a bit of trivia about her father, slain senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr., as the country commemorates his 31st death anniversary today (August 21).
During her morning show, "Kris TV", Kris shared that her father's favorite singer is Imelda Papin, who is dubbed as the country's "Jukebox Queen."
"Alam mo si Imelda Papin, super sikat siya, 'yung favorite ng dad ko. Naalala ko siya. Before, there's this song she had that was really sikat, 'Isang Linggong Pag-ibig'. Sana 'yun ang pinakanta ko kasi 'yun ang naaalala ko, super fan na fan ang daddy ko," said Kris, who asked her guests to sing as tribute to her father.
Kris went on to share that Papin used to sing for Mr. Aquino's political rivals, the Marcoses.
This, however, did not stop him from being a fan of Papin.
"Walang ano ha, kasi 'di ba siya 'yung tagakanta for, kasi hindi ba, Imelda siya, so forever siya with the Marcoses. Pero carebears ng dad ko, fan talaga siya ni Imelda Papin," said Kris, before requesting singer Jed Madela to perform part of Papin's hit, "Bakit?"
Papin's other hit songs include "Bakit Ikaw Pa" and "Sabik".
