MANILA, Philippines -- "Pilipinas Got Talent" finalist Marki Stroem has bagged the lead role in the upcoming stage adaptation of the Disney TV movie "Camp Rock," which will be staged by Repertory Philippines in November.
The Filipino-Norwegian singer and actor made the announcement on his Facebook page on Tuesday.
"Guys, full details. Just got the role of Shane Gray 'Joe Jonas' in Repertory's Camp Rock: the musical. Hope you guys watch out for it," he posted on Facebook.
Joe Jonas of the group Jonas Brothers played the role of Shane Gray in the original "Camp Rock," which aired in 2008, as well as its sequel "Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam" a year later.
This is not the first time Stroem has been cast in a stage musical. He also received positive reviews for his performance in "Next to Normal" for Atlantis Productions.
Earlier, Rep's Ria Pangilinan posted on Facebook a photo of Stroem during the auditions with the caption "Markki Stroem as Shane Gray (Joe Jonas) in Rep's Camp Rock."
The theater group held its final auditions for "Camp Rock" on Monday.
Rep's major musical for the year will open on November 16 at the Onstage Theater in Greenbelt, Makati, where it will run for one month.
According to Playbill website, the story of the stage musical is based on "Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam," but features songs from the two "Camp Rock" movies, including "This Is Me," "Can't Back Down," "It's On" and "We Rock."
The musical's book was adapted to the stage by Faye Greenberg and Robert Freedman.
On the Disney Theatrical Licensing website, the musical had this description: "This summer at camp was supposed to be all about the music and having the time of their lives. But the new, flashy Camp Star across the lake now threatens Camp Rock's very existence. To keep the doors open, Mitchie steps up, rallies her fellow Camp Rockers, and gets them into top shape for the ultimate showdown!"
Mitchie, who is also the love interest of Shane, was played by pop star Demi Lovato in the two Disney movies.
Rep has not yet announced who will play Mitchie in the stage version.
