Gov't, netizens pay tribute to Robredo online

MANILA, Philippines – A government tribute to late Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo is a nationwide, social media-driven effort.

On, the government put up a special page for Robredo, who was much-loved by Bicolanos and others who believed that he embodied the “tuwid na daan.”

On the page, it says, “Jesse Manalastas Robredo. Mabuting ama. Mapagmahal na asawa. Mapagkalingang anak. Tapat na kaibigan. Lingkod bayan. Nagueño. Bicolano. Higit sa lahat, Pilipino.”

Featured on the page are quotes from prominent personalities who have spoken or posted online about Robredo, as well as a Twitter box streaming posts from netizens using the hashtag #SalamatJesse.

There is also a biography of Robredo, and a timeline of his achievements in government.

“The nation continues to honor Secretary Robredo. We invite everyone to share their memories and testimonials,” a message on the Robredo page said.

Testimonials featured on include statements from musician Jim Paredes ("Jesse Robredo started a legacy of selfless service and greatness. It must live in us and we must vow to inspire others.") and Kristie Kenney, former US Ambassador to the Philippines ("Admired. Respected. Dedicated. Sec. Robredo will be deeply missed. My deepest condolences to his family.").
