Question from Cristie Calunod via Facebook: “Lagi na lang kasi ganito ang hair ko. Ano kaya ang bagay sa akin para bago naman ang look?”

_________

It’s common for Filipinas to feel scared about changing their hairstyles, so they end up with the same look, year after year. But if you do feel bored about your hair, people around you may be just as bored. Surprise them and yourself by trying any of the following tips.

Option 1: Change Color

A. Permanent Hair Dye

Your hair looks like it has never been colored. Visit your local salon and ask to change your hair color to a shade or two lighter. Since you are morena, medium to dark browns and mahoganies will look great on you.

B. Colored cellophane

If you are still a bit scared about getting a permanent hair dye, you can ask for a colored cellophane treatment. This may not be very noticeable but you will be surprised how a subtle change in your hair color can affect your entire look. Also, it will give your hair that smooth, shiny and polished style.

Option 2: Add Highlights

I have personally never tried highlights until early this year. I was hesitant and scared thinking my hair might look striped and unnatural. But, I learned, if your hairstylist can do it right, it will do wonders to your hair.

The trick is to make sure your highlights are only a shade or two lighter than the rest of your hair color. They should also be spread out at random, and must include even the ones from lowest layers of your hair. And each highlight should never be too thick.

Highlights can instantly brighten your face and add texture to your hair. If you want a simple and not overly-dramatic change, you should seriously consider getting this.

Option 3: Change your Part

The ultra safe option that is cheap and reversible is to change where you part your hair. Part it at the other side to add sexy volume. Or part it straight along the center for a more corporate look.

Option 4: Cut it!

If you are feeling adventurous, go ahead and cut your hair! I think you would look great in Victoria Beckham's famous short bob.

Or you can also just ask for sidebangs and layers like that of Vanessa Hudgens to frame your beautiful face.

Option 5: Add Length

Okay, this one will take time because you will need a couple of months to grow your hair. But if you just want to try it out, you can always opt for hair extensions to add volume and length.

I cannot promise that you will absolutely love your new hair because it does take time to adjust to new things. But change is a good thing, so welcome it. A change in your outer appearance can be symbolic of a readiness to change your life for the better.

In the end, it's all about how we welcome these changes and adapt. Good luck!
