MANILA -- The Chori Burger won the hearts of diners during the 2014 Battle of Burger contest at New York held last Thursday.
Created by the Filipino restaurant Jeepney, the decidedly Pinoy take on the American sandwich classic won first place in the contest hosted by Time Out magazine and was awarded a golden burger trophy.
In a report on its website, Time Out described Jeepney's Chori Burger as "shellacked in banana ketchup and Maggi aioli, and topped with chorizo-esque longganisa."
Coming in second was another Filipino-American creation, the Pork Slope, by former "Top Chef" contestant Dale Talde, while the Astoria Sports Bar's Twist & Smash'd burger came in third.
"WE DID IT! 1st Place at Time Out New York's Battle of the Burger!!!!! Thank you to all who voted!" Jeepney said on its Facebook page.
