MANILA, Philippines - Metro Magazine is now available on the Apple iPad, a first in the local magazine industry.
It features content from the fashion magazine's August issue, but with a twist -- here, iPad users can single out fashion pieces, click on hairstyles and play games, making it more interactive.
The application, which can be downloaded on the iTunes store for free, also has behind-the-scenes footage from photo shoots and events, among others.
"We see the iPad as the new frontier for publishing. This is the future of our platform," said Ernie Lopez, head of ABS-CBN Publishing.
Metro Magazine tapped the services of a Singaporean firm to make this venture into the iPad possible, according to ABS-CBN Publishing business manager Catherine Bustos Guevarra.
Lopez has high hopes for the magazine's new format, saying that it will not only help them reach the global audience, but also provide more opportunities for advertising.
"The Metro Magazine app is the number 1 app right now. We're really excited about this," he said.
Despite the new venture, Lopez and Guevara stressed that the fashion magazine's print version is here to stay, saying that the iPad edition only "enhances what the magazine offers."
Meanwhile, talks are ongoing about the iPad versions of ABS-CBN Publishing's other magazines. -- Karen Flores, abs-cbnNEWS.com
