Food seminar series goes to Zamboanga for first time

MANILA -- After its kickoff event in Davao, the next stop for the DINE Philippines series of seminars is Zamboanga City on Thursday at the Astoria Regency Convention Center.

Industry experts shall again share their insights on Filipino competitiveness ahead of the ASEAN integration. These include celebrity chef Bruce Lim and owner of Mise En Plus Foods, brand strategist Amor Maclang of GeiserMaclang Marketing Communications, digital marketer Homer Nievera of and; and food service operations veteran Danny Pumarega, the chief operating officer of the Max’s restaurant chain.

In collaboration with the Zamboanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry Foundation and the Zamboanga State College of Marine Science and Technology, DINE Philippines expects more than 600 participants from food and hospitality business owners and executives to the academe.

The Department of Tourism is also supporting the event with Tourism assistant secretary Art Boncato giving the keynote address.

DINE Philippines is a restaurant management seminar series that has been running since 2010. It has been brought to key cities and provinces including Davao, General Santos, Cebu, Bacolod, Pampanga among others.

The conference series gathers some of the industry’s top restopreneurs and culinarians to inform, educate and inspire its audience of the top trends and best practices in managing food businesses.

It shall hold the conference in Zamboanga for the first time, but is expected to be an annual event, organizers said.

It comes just two weeks after DINE Philippines launched this year's series with a conference leg in Davao City last July 18.

The half-day seminar gave its audience a better understanding of the role of Filipino food concepts in our country’s competitiveness in preparation for the ASEAN integration in 2015.

Speakers included Maclang, Nievera, The French Baker founder and president Johnlu Koa and travel writer, chef and food blogger of Pinoy Eats World, JJ Yulo.

The seminar was supported by the Davao Tourism Association, headed by the organization’s president, Sally San Jose.
