MANILA - Senator Bam Aquino has voiced support for any measure that would prohibit discrimination against lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgenders (LGBT).
In a press conference on Tuesday, Aquino was asked about his reaction to Pope Francis' recent statement that LGBTs should not be marginalized but integrated to society.
"I agree," he answered. "When you look at the state, we do have equal protection of the law, and we will fight any kind of discrimination against LGBTs."
A bill penalizing discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity has been filed at the House of Representatives, where it stayed at the committee level in the previous Congress.
No such measure has yet been filed at the Senate.
"If there's a need to push for this bill separately, we will push for this bill," Aquino said.
