SLIDESHOW: ‘Diablo’ wins big at Cinemalaya 2012

MANILA, Philippines – “Diablo” dominated the 8th Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival and Competition after it bagged five awards in a ceremony held at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) on Sunday night.

"Diablo" tells the story of a mother and her five grown up sons who gather again as a family after one son is stabbed to death by a drunk while on a pilgrimage.

“Diablo” won Best Film, Best Director (Mes de Guzman) Best Actress (Ana Quiambao), Best Cinematography (Tristan Salas), and the Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema -- all in the New Breed category.

The Best Actor award for the New Breed category went to Kristoffer King for his performance at “Oros,” while Joross Gamboa won the Best Supporting Actor award for “Intoy Syokoy ng Kalye Marino”

Anita Linda, 88, bagged the New Breed Best Supporting Actress award for her performance at “Sta. Niña” topbilled by “Walang Hanggan” star Coco Martin.

For the Directors' Showcase category, “Posas” by Lawrence Fajardo won Best Film, while Eddie Garcia received a standing ovation for his Best Actor win for his performance in “Bwakaw.”

Four stars of “Mumunting Lihim,” meanwhile, bagged the Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress awards in the Directors Showcase category. They are Judy Ann Santos, Agot Isidro, Iza Calzado and Janice de Belen. Calzado went on stage to receive their awards.
