MANILA, Philippines - US-based Filipina pastry chef Sally Camacho is one of the 14 contestants of the newest season of "Top Chef Just Desserts," which premieres on American cable channel Bravo TV on August 24.
Camacho is currently a pastry chef of WP24, a restaurant of Austrian-American celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck at the Ritz Carlton luxury hotel in Los Angeles, California. She has Associate of Occupational Studies (AOS) degrees in Culinary Arts and Baking and Pastry Program at the California Culinary Academy.
Her favorite simple fall dessert recipes are pecan and cashew pie and pumpkin ice cream, according to the "Top Chef Just Desserts" website. The 5 ingredients she always keeps on hand are palm sugar, black rice, agar, 100% chocolate and pandan leaves.
Camacho represented the United States at the Culinary Olympics in Germany in 2008, where her pastry team won gold medals. Last April, she won the Valrhona C3 Competition in France, and will represent the US in Madrid in January 2012.
Other contestants in season 2 of "Top Chef Just Desserts" include Rebecca Mason, Vanarin Kuch, Orlando Santos, Nelson Paz, Melissa Camacho, Megan Ketover, Matthew Petersen, Lina Biancamano, Katzie Guy-Hamilton, Craig Poirier, Chris Hanmer, Carlos Enriquez and Amanda Rockman.
The show is hosted by Canadian food critic Gail Simmons. Its judges are pastry chef Johnny Iuzzini, French chef Hubert Keller and Dannielle Kyrillos, a contributor of Food Republic website.
